I Became ~ Kerry Fantelli

I became
I followed a wave today
its soft rising, falling, shapes, contours
its crests became familiar as the lines on my palm, shape of my thigh
I saw this wave
how it lifted, fell, was separate yet connected to ancestors, children waves to come
I felt this wave reach my eyes
soon felt soft cascade down my cheeks
I followed a trail today as it twisted, turned
roots my stepping stones
covered with piney green sky
beneath me solid and soft, needles of unspoken words
Universal language requires nothing more than birdsong
I became this trail, became this wave
my roots and I connecting to water
I wept with understanding
I followed a tree today
lifted so high
branches east to west
wildlife calling it family
roots so deep I had to close my eyes to see them
they led me home, back to the parts that were lost
I became
